Gratitude

Last post, we focused on specificity.  This post we'll turn our attention to gratitude. We believe there are few things to be more grateful for than strong healthy hearts and bodies. Investing in an accurate wearable device keeps your heart healthy and strong!

This is the time of year where we more openly express our gratitude.  Certainly our health and fitness are to be grateful for.  The field of positive psychology is putting forth exciting findings on the positive effects of focusing our attention on the things we are grateful for.  Shawn Achor, in his book The Happiness Advantage, explains that his research along with others demonstrates that our brains are hard-wired to function better at positive than at negative or neutral.  Positive psychologists offer many strategies for training our brains to be positive, but among the top are exercising regularly and generating gratitude.  How about we do a little of both!

A popular gratitude generating activity is the three good things exercise.  Either at the end of the day or the end of the week, journal or talk through three good things that happened that day or week and to what you attribute those good things.  This trains your brain to look for the positive.  We suggest that you combine the three good things activity with your workouts this month.  At the end of the day or the week, journal or discuss three good things about your workouts and to what you attribute those good things.  It could be as simple as having a great run because you put together a rockin’ playlist the night before.  Or, maybe you were able to sustain the yellow zone longer than you had before because you were well rested and fueled.  You can use the comments section on your activity report to record your three good things.

What are you grateful for?  Share your three good things with us!   Post to Facebook or Twitter and use the hashtags: #myzonemoves #grateful #gratitude #goodthing.  We are grateful for dedicated and MYZONE users like you! If you're wanting to become one, get your MZ-3 and join the community. Keep moving forward!
